Reverend Tim Smiley grew up in Orlando, Florida, where both his and Candace Miller Smiley’s families worshipped and served as members of Azalea Park United Methodist Church. He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. He served forty-one years as a full-time local church pastor and district superintendent, including twelve and one-half years as Senior Pastor of Plantation United Methodist Church from 1997 to 2009. It is his honor and privilege to now serve as pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Hobe Sound.

Tim and Candy will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this December. Candy has a microbiology degree from the University of Central Florida and has worked in doctors’ offices and hospital laboratories for almost five decades. The Smiley’s have three adult sons, Robert (Melissa Ann), Rick (Maria Carolina), and David (Melissa Jo), and two teenage granddaughters, Elizabeth “Ellie,” and Penelope “Penny.”

Julie and family have lived in Hobe Sound 46 years. Daughter Kara attended the 1st FUMCHS Youth and Vacation Bible School. Upon leaving the corporate world, Julie began to volunteer in the Children's Ministry and Office. In 2024, she was asked to become an office staff person at FUMCHS.

Since becoming a member in 2005, Kathy Gordon has grown within the church by also volunteering with the Youth Group, joining small group studies, and hosting a few Youth Group events. Kathy enjoys the fellowship of her Church Family, and believes that they are an essential part of her walk with God. As an advocate for FUMCHS all around, Kathy’s involvement grew to serving as the part-time Media and Communications person, although she is always thinking of ways to connect people with the Word of God, and support others to grow through the church.

Don leads our Adult Discipleship area, and has been involved in church ministry for 20 years. Most of that experience is as a contemporary worship leader.
